Group Overview
The facility to add and join a 'group' is a unique feature of the
liftshare service. It is designed to help you not only find journey
matches but also to find people you either have something in common
with or who work in the same community as you.
By 'group' we mean any population of people
who are able to share cars to mutual benefit. For example, groups
could be defined by geography (i.e. a village, town, city, country
or region), function (i.e. a company, school, university or hospital),
location (i.e. a housing estate, business park or industrial estate)
or activity (i.e. people interested in classical music, sports etc).
You do not need to be in a group to search
for travel companions.
Public Groups
The public group facility enables you to find like-minded travelling
companions free of charge.
In addition to the public groups set up in
Norfolk on carsharenorfolk.com, liftshare has a huge list
of public groups throughout the UK, giving you the choice to
travel with other people with similar interests, whether they be
bird-lovers, festival goers or people from the same region as you.
As a member of a public group, when you search
for travel companions the list of matches will show you if each
person is in the same group(s) as you. You can specify whether you
would like to search only within the group, or whether you would
like to search for all potential matches.
Anyone can set up a new public group for free.

Private Groups
Private groups have restricted membership. As a member of a private
group you are able to restrict your search to within the group and
can restrict your journey details so that they are only shown to
other members of your private group. If you wish, you can also search
for all potential matches.
New private groups can be set up for businesses
and communities wanting restricted access. There is a charge for
private groups and this varies depending upon the service you would
like.
Setting up a private group under the umbrella
of carsharenorfolk.com is much more cost-effective than buying an
off-the-shelf scheme, and more likely to succeed. That is one of
the reasons why Norfolk County Council and Norwich City Council
set up carsharenorfolk.com.
